History

The Georgia Association of Mortgage Professionals, Inc. is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit state trade organization that was incorporated in 1985 by a small group of mortgage brokers. The association's purposes, as stated in our original Articles of Incorporation, are: “To promote the business of mortgage brokerage, to educate members of the mortgage broker community, to promote high standards of integrity and responsibility in the mortgage broker community, to educate the public as to the desirability of mortgage brokerage, and to do all other things necessary for the advancement of the mortgage brokerage business.”

The original GAMP Board of Directors consisted of four members: Bill Scott, Gwen Scott, Ed Loyless and Paulette Loyless Sasser. The Board now has eighteen members. Paulette Loyless Sasser served as our group's first president, and our current president, Steven Alexander, is the twenty-fifth in a long line of mortgage professionals who have dedicated themselves over the years to the enhancement of the association and the industry.

About a year after GAMP got off the ground, the January 1987 Minutes proudly proclaimed that GAMP had “16 regular members” and “39 members in other categories.” While membership growth did rise steadily during the association's early years, membership particularly began to burgeon in 1993 with the advent of the state licensing of mortgage brokers in Georgia. Since that burst of growth, our members have numbered in the hundreds.

While faces, events and industry issues evolve throughout the years, the foundation of the Georgia Association of Mortgage Professionals is likely to remain the same—a determined group of small and large mortgage brokers and related professionals who band together to benefit both themselves and the industry they represent.
